At St Mary's Academy we want our children to understand how past events and people have shaped their lives today.
We will:
- Ensure children have a clear chronological understanding of history
- Enable every child to develop in terms of their moral, spiritual and cultural development
- Ensure history develops the children's understanding of justice, courage and moral choices
- Make direct links between our local and national community
- Place a high demand on knowledge in history
- Enrich pupils through trips, visitors and experiences
- Develop our children's vocabulary, reasoning skills and understaning of the world around them to prepare them to be resilient citizens of the future
- Prepare children to be ambitious in an ever-changing world
Implementation:
Our Kapow Primary History Cirriculum ensures we are able to fulfil these promises by:
- Ensuring full coverage of the National Cirriculum
- Providing learning opportunities that ignite curiosity, nuture critical thinking and develop a comprehensive understanding of local, national and global history
- Supporting chronology using a timeline to help children to create a mental map of historical events, facilitating connects and analysis throughout their learning
- Ensuring secure knowledge development through five key strands: Topic knowledge, chronological awareness, substantive concepts, disciplinary concepts and historical enquiry
- Teaching British history chronologically through the school
- Providing a rich range of historical sources to develop historical inquiry skills
