Intent:
At St Mary's Academy we want our children to experience a wide spectrum of art while cultivating creativity and confidence in pupils.
We will:
- Teach the skills needed for children to create through drawing, printing, painting and sculpture
- Provide access to a wide range of techniques and resources
- Ensure art develops the children's creativity, joy and expression
- Encourage children to see art as an expressive art form
- Give children opportunities to see how art links to the world around them and how it is shaped and influenced by history and culture
Implementation:
Our Kapow Primary Art and Design Curriculum ensures we are able to fulfil these promises by:
- Ensuring full coverage of National Curriculum
- Incorporating five strands of learning; generating ideas, using sketchbooks, making skills, knowledge of artists, evaluating and analysing
- Providing clear knowledge and skill progression across year groups and Key Stages
- Offering the opportunity for diverse creative approaches whilst still being knowledge-richÂ
- Practical lessons and use of sketchbooks to inspire pupils to explore and experiment
