Intent

🌟 Shining Together: Our Curriculum in the Light of Christ

Our curriculum is the living expression of our Christian vision, 'In the light of Christ we will shine together', rooted in the values of love, joy, wisdom, and hope.

We are committed to a curriculum that enables every child to flourish academically, socially and spiritually.

Our curriculum rests upon four key principles:

  1. Equity and inclusion

  2. A knowledge-rich core

  3. Literacy and communication at the heart

  4. Christian values, well-being and personal development

We provide a highly adapted and inclusive curriculum that places literacy, communication and emotional regulation at its core, ensuring that all pupils, particularly those with SEND or from disadvantaged backgrounds, can access learning and experience success. Every child is valued as a full member of our loving and learning community.

Our ambitious and well-sequenced curriculum builds essential knowledge, vocabulary and skills, enabling all pupils to develop their cultural capital and tackle increasing levels of challenge with confidence.

Woven throughout our curriculum are our Christian values of Love, Joy, Wisdom and Hope, which shape how we learn, how we treat each other and how we grow as individuals. Through this, we nurture pupils who are resilient, curious, reflective and independent, ready to transition to secondary school with confidence and a strong sense of their own worth and potential.

Implementation

💕 Love, Joy, and Wisdom in Practice

  • Love and Joy breathe life into our school, actively promoted through a curriculum that empowers teachers to provide rich, joyful experiences and instil a deep love of learning. This commitment, alongside our focus on well-being through collective worship, restorative practices, and PSHE, nurtures pupils' personal development.

  • We systematically build wisdom and cultural capital through evidenced-based teaching, retrieval practice, and challenging, complex content. Subject sequencing is carefully constructed to recap and build on prior knowledge, ensuring all pupils experience academic success.

  • We prioritize a literacy-enriched approach, using Oracy 21 and sophisticated vocabulary across all subjects. Dedicated phonics and spelling lessons, alongside a bespoke writing curriculum that focuses on the mastery of sentence construction and grammar, build strong literacy foundations, unlocking pupils' ability to independently derive meaning, communicate effectively and bridge any cultural gaps.

🌈 Equity and Future Hope

  • We ensure equity and inclusion through a highly adaptive teaching model, meticulously planning for the needs of all learners, especially those with SEND and disadvantaged backgrounds, guaranteeing access to our knowledge-rich core curriculum.

  • Early identification of gaps, regular planned assessment, and comprehensive interventions, led by a dedicated SENDCO, ensure we meet individual needs. This commitment, together with Individual Education Plans, enables pupils to progress towards personalized goals and instils a strong sense of hope and high aspirations for the future.

Impact

The impact of our curriculum's intent and implementation will be rigorously monitored through a combination of quantitative and qualitative measures to ensure we are meeting our stated goals. Pupil outcomes will be centrally monitored by tracking termly assessment attainment data and progress against prior attainment, particularly for vulnerable groups, to assess if students are securing the intended knowledge and skills. This will be triangulated with regular learning walks, lesson observations and planning scrutiny, focusing on the consistency and effectiveness of teaching strategies and the quality of student engagement. Furthermore, student voice activities, including pupil interviews and surveys, will gauge their enthusiasm for the subject and their confidence in applying their learning. Finally, teacher scrutiny of student work, along with subject -leader led self-reviews against the curriculum intent, will ensure continuous evaluation and refinement, leading to an accurate picture of impact and enabling timely intervention where necessary.
