Design and Technology

Intent:

At St Mary's Academy we offer considerate, creative and practical approach to Design and Technology in order to inspire our children to become designers of the future, as well as learn skills that will help them throughout life.

We will:

  • Develop children's creative, technical and practical expertise to perform everyday tasks confidently
  • Teach children to be resourceful, take risks and innovate
  • Give children the opportunity to create products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts
  • Build the knowledge, understanding and skills in order for children to design and make high-quality products
  • Ensure children understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook
  • Encourage children to reflect on the impacs of design and technology on daily life and in the wider world

Our Kapow Primary Design and Technology Curriculum ensures we are able to fulfil these promises by:

  • Ensuring full coverage of the National Curriculum
  • Providing knowledge-rich and skill focused lessons that develop the key stands; design, make, evaluate and technical knowledge
  • Giving children the opportunity to apply computing knowledge for programming, monitoring and controlling products in their design highlighting the significance of digital technology today
  • Equipping children with transferable skills applicable to a variety of projects
