Intent:
At St Mary's we champion STEM subjects by encouraging children to be curious about the world around them.
We will:
- Ensure all children make progress from their starting points
- Teach knowledge in a way that considers each child's individual cognitive load
- Teach skills and knowledge that are progressive
- Ensure all children use science to develop stewardship towards creation
- Broaden children's experiences beyond our locality
- Place a high demand on pupils in terms of knowledge, skills, quality of work and attitudes to learning
- Develop vocabulary, reasoning skills and understanding of the world around them to prepare them to be citzens of the future
- Be certain that all of our children are securely prepared for the next stages in their educational careers
- Prepare children to be ambitious in an ever changing world
Implementation:
Our Kapow Primary Science Cirriculum ensures we are able to fulfil these promises by:
- Ensuring full coverage of the national cirriculum and statutory guidance
- Providing knowledge-rich and engaging lessons
- Offering a spiral cirriculum for skill progression
- Providing practical, real world experiments to fully develop scientific enquiry skills
