At St Marys Academy, Physical Education is an integral part of our curriculum that is inclusive and engages all pupils. Our Christian vision “In the light of Christ we will shine together through love, joy, wisdom and hope” guides our use of the Primary PE and Sports Premium. We want every child to flourish physically, socially and emotionally through high-quality physical education, active play, and opportunities to live healthy, active lives. Children develop the knowledge, skills, and competence to excel in a broad range of sports and physical activities. We aim to deliver high-quality teaching and learning opportunities that enables all children to achieve their personal best.
Our Priorities
- High-Quality PE Teaching: We invest in staff training, specialist coaching, and high-quality resources so that all children receive outstanding PE lessons.
- Participation in Sport: We provide opportunities for all pupils, including disadvantaged children, to represent the school and enjoy competitions and festivals.
- Active Play and Lunchtimes: We make playtimes active and inclusive through OPAL play, pupil playleaders, and outdoor equipment.
- Health and Wellbeing: We support children’s physical and mental health with activities such as yoga, mindfulness, Forest School and healthy lifestyle workshops.
- Sustainability and Legacy: We invest in long-term facilities and pupil leadership, leaving a lasting culture of sport and wellbeing for future years.
Impact
Through this funding, children at our school will:
- Develop skills, confidence and enjoyment in PE.
- Take part in more competitive and inclusive sports opportunities.
- Be more active during the school day.
- Understand the link between physical activity, health and wellbeing.
- Contribute to a lasting legacy of sport and leadership.
St Mary's use both programmes Complete PE and Yoga Bugs. Complete PE is an interactive Physical Education resource designed to support the implementation of a High Quality Physical Education Curriculum. It helps with the School to meet its Ofsted Requirements. Through Complete PE, the Knowledge Organisers are used to support the children's learning and develop their skills across the PE curriculum.
We provide a range of sports clubs to engage children in physical/Active lifestyles. These can be sports such as Football and Basketball through to Table Tennis and Archery. All children use the Daily Mile to enhance their physical health and wellbeing.
